As we wrap up the week, I started thinking: wouldn’t it be great to know more a bit more about this community? We’ve asked you to share your stories in a previous conversation, but that was a bit of a damp squib. It was overly optimistic to expect people to divulge so much so soon.
So we’re going to simplify it a bit with three quick questions:
Morning lark or night owl?
City or country?
Front yard or back yard?
Answer them briefly as you see fit, or add some context. I’ll put my responses in below to get things started.
But before getting started, a quick follow-up from this week’s post. Craig shared that he too is the hair braider in his family and I admit, my skills are no match for his. Want proof?
Thanks for sharing, Craig. To you, and all the other dads out there, Happy Father’s Day.
1 - Night. I want to be a morning guy, I really really do.
2 - I'm tempted to say both, but if forced to make a decision; city.
3 - Back yard. It's weirder back there :)
1. Aspiring Morning lark. Maybe it's my type A personality, but I LOVE being first, even when others aren't looking.
I started early-morning trail running when I moved to Colorado, which is when I learned that nature seems to reward those who are first. It's a special feeling when the sun rises, you're on the trail, and the only sounds you can hear are your breath and the animals around you.
2. Both city & country: I'll always appreciate my experiences living in cities like NYC, CHI and now DEN. These cities are where socio-economic worlds collide. The rich, poor, and everyone in the middle all have no choice but to find a way to live together. Ride the NYC subway, and you'll get an education on life that no school can possibly teach.
The country, however, is near and dear to me. Since the 60's, my family has shared a house 2-hours north of NYC in a small town called Copake. The memories we made up there - playing in the fields, bbq'ing on Memorial day, fishing on the lake, etc - are golden.
3. Roofdeck
