1 - Night. I want to be a morning guy, I really really do.

2 - I'm tempted to say both, but if forced to make a decision; city.

3 - Back yard. It's weirder back there :)

“It’s weirder back there.” That’s accurate except when running jorts are worn at 6am in the front. Doesn’t get much weirder than that.

1. Aspiring Morning lark. Maybe it's my type A personality, but I LOVE being first, even when others aren't looking.

I started early-morning trail running when I moved to Colorado, which is when I learned that nature seems to reward those who are first. It's a special feeling when the sun rises, you're on the trail, and the only sounds you can hear are your breath and the animals around you.

2. Both city & country: I'll always appreciate my experiences living in cities like NYC, CHI and now DEN. These cities are where socio-economic worlds collide. The rich, poor, and everyone in the middle all have no choice but to find a way to live together. Ride the NYC subway, and you'll get an education on life that no school can possibly teach.

The country, however, is near and dear to me. Since the 60's, my family has shared a house 2-hours north of NYC in a small town called Copake. The memories we made up there - playing in the fields, bbq'ing on Memorial day, fishing on the lake, etc - are golden.

Well said, Andrew. That part about being/going first is something that I relate to quite a lot. Sitting in the front row at a presentation, first to raise their hand, first to say hello out on a run.

Those are some great memories up in Copake! We used to head to the beach in Maine for a week growing up and I still remember those days with similar fondness.

Loved this!

1.- Night Owl. I used to be a Morning Lark, now my wife (your Mom) has me up late watching TV, often Hulu, mostly British Detective shows. It is a time to be together sharing the enjoyment of top quality programming, but, it sure is hard to get going in the morning.

2. - Country. I used to love the pulse, vibrance, and culture of NYC when working there. But now, being retired in my late 70s in North Carolina, I (and the Mrs.) love the beach, jaunts to the Carolina mountains, and drives on country roads. I so enjoy gardening too.

3. - Front Yard. In the back we have a great screened-in patio and a large slab area. I tend lots of plants and flowers there. It is nice. But, there’s nothing more relaxing than sitting in my rocking chair on the front porch, especially after working in the garden. It’s nice socially, too, as I get to converse with neighborhood strollers, dog walkers, and bike riders. And, on occasion, my girl joins me for a nice chat.

This is great! Thanks for sharing. The conversing in the front yard with neighbors is quite lovely.

A long time ago a random person at a random affair came up with hair as a random response to me in a conversation about family. He said... learn how to do up your daughter's hair, and she will confide in you all through the braid. I thought it was nice that he found so much value in just 10 minutes of focused interaction.

Night owl, City, Front.

Also, front and backyard question was solid.

Thanks! It came to me one morning while sitting in the front watching people walk by and how boring (though peaceful and quiet) sitting in the back can be.

1) Morning Lark. I'm known to fall asleep before the kids and like to be up with the birds in the morning. Getting out for today's swim as the sun was cresting - chef's kiss.

2) This one is tough. There are elements of both that I prefer, but given the last year plus more or less confined to the home, I will go with city right now. Looking forward to getting into the city on Sunday for Foo Fighters!

3) Front yard. I've got two Adirondack chairs in the front yard. I like to sit, read, watch, converse, and be within the neighborhood. Our back yard is great (highly recommend a Solo Stove for those who have the space for it), but I prefer testing out the kindness of strangers by sitting in front (see above remark on the past year making this even more needed).
